LASIK Eye Surgery FAQs
LASIK surgery offers an alternative to prescription glasses or contact lenses for correcting refractive errors in your vision. This surgical procedure can be performed at Hofacre Optometric Corporation in both our Chino Hills and San Dimas eye clinics. The following answers to some FAQs will give you greater insight into LASIK in Chino Hills and San Dimas.
How Can LASIK Correct My Vision?
LASIK surgery has been proven effective in correcting visual refractions like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, making you less dependent on contacts or glasses for good vision. Although there’s no guarantee the surgery will give you 20/20 vision, you will benefit from improved sight. Your level of improvement will depend on the severity of your visual refractions and how well you heal from the surgery.
Am I a Good Candidate For LASIK Surgery?
Not everyone qualifies for LASIK. There are some restrictions. If you’re over 21 years of age, are in good health, and have had stable vision for the last year, you could be a candidate for LASIK. Your Chino Hills or San Dimas eye doctor will review your eye health, prescription, and medical history to determine if LASIK would be a good choice for you.
Is LASIK Painful?
No. We’ll numb your eyes with topical anesthetic eye drops prior to your procedure to keep you from feeling pain during surgery. You may feel pressure on your eye during surgery, but otherwise, there’s no pain or discomfort.
After the procedure, your eyes may feel scratchy or more sensitive to light. These feelings will pass in a few hours. Taking a nap upon returning home will help your eyes to heal.
What Can I Expect From LASIK Surgery Recovery?
On the day of your procedure, you may experience foggy vision. That’s normal and will soon pass. Most LASIK patients are seeing clearly a day later and are ready to resume their normal activities. If you have a high prescription, your recovery may be slower. People heal differently. Within a few days, you should see a noticeable improvement in your vision.
Your Chino Hills/San Dimas eye doctor may restrict you from sports play, swimming or strenuous activities for a few weeks after LASIK surgery to ensure your eyes heal properly. By following his instructions, you’ll have fewer issues with recovery.
Are There Risks With LASIK Surgery?
LASIK is a fairly safe procedure with approximately one million surgeries performed in the country annually. Being a surgical procedure, however, there’s always some risk of complications. Thus far, no long-term negative consequences have been reported concerning this procedure.
