Do Blue Light Blocking Glasses Really Work?

With the amount of time that most people spend looking at digital screens, computer vision syndrome is becoming a common concern. This can happen when people spend prolonged hours in front of a computer or mobile device. These devices emit a spectrum of light, including blue light. Blue light is harmful to the eyes, and blue light blocking eyeglasses are used to protect the eyes from computer vision syndrome. At Hofacre Optometric Corporation we have shared the benefits of blue light blocking lenses with residents of San Dimas and Chino Hills for many years.

Blue Light

Blue light waves are visible in all light, including sunlight. However, getting too much of it has been found to cause computer vision syndrome. The blue light can make us feel upbeat and alert, but too much of it can cause eye pain and disrupt sleep patterns. Too much blue light has been found to cause blurry vision, eye redness, dry eye, double vision, eye fatigue, and more. It has also been shown to cause headaches and pain in both the shoulders and neck.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses

Blue light blocking eyeglasses use a filter that keeps blue light from reaching your eyes. When you wear them while looking at a digital screen, they will reduce the amount of blue light that makes it through. Looking at blue light at night can be especially harmful to the eyes and your sleep cycle, so many people wear these glasses in the evenings and at night. However, they are also helpful during the day.
